Next Monday’s Section VII Division II boys’ hockey championship game is set following Thursday’s semifinals.
Top-seeded Beekmantown and second-seeded Plattsburgh High will meet at Monday 6:30 p.m. for the title.
The Hornets edged out a 4-3 victory over third-seeded Saranac Lake/Lake Placid on Thursday, while the Eagles skated to a 7-2 win over fourth-seeded Saranac.
PLATTSBURGH 4
SLP 3
PLATTSBURGH — Cooper Holland’s second goal of the game, coming 8:17 into the third period, broke a 3-all tie and sent the Hornets (13-5-2) into the finals.
SLP took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Eli McCormick’s goal before the two teams combined to score five goals in the second.
Sam Bezio scored twice and Holland once for PHS, while Ayden McCormick and Eli McCormick netted goals for SLP.
The Hornets rallied to tie it at 2-all before Eli McCormick put SLP back in front. But Bezio added his second goal two minutes later to tie it again at 3-all.
Owen Chapple made 21 saves on 24 shots on goal in the PHS nets, while Scottie Nicholas stopped 37 of 41 shots for SLP.
“Battling back from down all night shows the toughness we have on our team,” PHS coach Trevor Cameron said. “We didn’t panic. Our boys faced heavy pressure and executed enough to secure the win.
“We are not satisfied and will prepare for a strong Beekmantown team Monday at the Stafford Ice Arena. As the underdog, we will have to play our best game.”

BeeKMANTOWN 7
SARANAC 2
PLATTSBURGH — The Eagles (13-5-2) went heavy to their first line, with Edward Sweenor scoring three goals and getting an assist and Pryce Parker with a goal and three assists.
Mason Carter added two goals and Ivan Roy one for Beekmantown, while Jack Bell made 25 saves on 27 shots on goal for the win.
“Edward Sweenor had another outstanding performance (for) us, scoring three goals and adding an assist,” Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette said. “And Jack Bell was solid in net again, making timely saves when we needed them the most.”
The Eagles avenged a 6-3 loss to Saranac in last year’s Section VII Division II championship game.
Gabe Moore and Adrian Barnes accounted for the Spartans’ goals.
It was a competitive game through two periods before Beekmantown pulled away by scoring four of the five goals in the third.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our group tonight,” Frechette said. “We got off to a fast start and did a great job handling Saranac’s push late in the first period.
“After making a few adjustments heading into the third, our players executed the plan, scoring three goals in the first two minutes. That stretch was the turning point and really shifted the momentum of the game. Credit to Saranac and their players on a hard-fought game.
“Now, our focus shifts to preparing for Monday night’s championship game. Plattsburgh is a strong team, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
