Rutgers Adds Former Drake Coach Joe Evans to Staff

Rutgers has hired former Drake defensive line coach Joe Evans as its new assistant defensive line coach. Evans brings a season of success at Drake and a standout college career at Iowa.

Rutgers football announced the hiring of Joe Evans as assistant defensive line coach. Evans joined the staff after a single season at Drake, where he helped develop linemen who posted double‑digit sack totals.

A walk‑on at Iowa, Evans finished with 135 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 28 sacks, and four forced fumbles. He recorded four sacks against Rutgers in 2022 and spent a brief stint on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in 2024. Evans will work under new defensive line coach Dennis Dottin‑Carter.
