Mississippi House Passes NIL Tax Exemption

The Mississippi House has passed a bill to exempt Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings from state taxation. The legislation aims to support college athletes in the state by allowing them to keep all income from their endorsements.

The Mississippi House passed legislation Wednesday that eliminates state taxes on earnings from Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals for college athletes. The bill, which now moves to the Senate for consideration, would allow student-athletes in Mississippi to keep 100% of their endorsement income without state tax deductions.

The legislation reflects growing support for NIL rights across the United States since the NCAA changed its rules in 2021 allowing college athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness. Mississippi joins several other states that have passed similar tax exemptions to support their student-athletes.
