Arizona School Athletics on Probation After Basketball Incident

The Arizona Interscholastic Association has placed Coolidge High School's entire athletics department on probation for 365 days following allegations of taunting during a boys basketball playoff game.

The penalties include a playoff ban imposed on all teams at the school, which Coolidge is currently appealing. The sanctions stem from incidents during a quarterfinal matchup where Coolidge defeated Chinle, 64-53. Video footage was submitted to the AIA, prompting an investigation into the serious allegations.

If upheld, Coolidge would be disqualified from postseason play in all sports for one year, including forfeiture of their scheduled state semifinal game against Snowflake. Arizona state legislator Myron Tsosie commented on the incident, expressing concern about messages received from Chinle High School families and fans.
