New Rule: Injured Players Must Wait One Minute

Football's international law committee will approve a new rule requiring injured players to wait one minute on the sidelines before returning to the game, aimed at combating time-wasting tactics.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will introduce a new regulation mandating that players receiving treatment on the field must remain on the sidelines for a full minute before rejoining play. This measure addresses the long-standing issue of time-wasting through feigned injuries.

Currently, no specific rules exist in football regulations regarding how long treated players must remain off the field. Leagues have implemented their own guidelines, with the Premier League adopting a 30-second rule for the 2023/24 season. Many in football have long advocated for standardized rules to prevent players from simulating injuries to delay the game.
