Cincinnati sues Texas Tech QB Sorsby over $1M buyout

The University of Cincinnati has filed a lawsuit against quarterback Brendan Sorsby, seeking $1 million in damages for transferring to Texas Tech before his revenue-sharing deal expired.

Cincinnati claims Sorsby promised to pay the buyout if he transferred before December 2026, though his representative argues the penalty is unlawful under Ohio law. Sorsby's team stated the suit is "misguided" and that the transfer was mutually agreed upon.

Sorsby signed a reported $5 million NIL deal with Texas Tech after a strong 2025 season. His representative contends the university paid him $875,800 for a completed season and is trying to recover funds that violate state regulations.
