Tony Clark Resigns After Scandal

Major League Baseball Players' Association chief Tony Clark has resigned after an internal investigation uncovered an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, a union employee.

The union's executive council expressed support for Bruce Meyer, the union's lead negotiator, to replace Clark on an interim basis. However, at least three players opposed Meyer during a conference call, preventing a vote. Players are scheduled to reconvene Wednesday after speaking with teammates, with the executive council expected to push for a vote.

Clark was cleared of financial misconduct but faces a federal investigation by the Eastern District of New York. The sister-in-law, who worked at the union's Scottsdale office since it opened in 2023, earned $83,101 in 2023 and $96,524 in 2024, according to tax records.
