St. Thomas Celts Excel with Defense, Honor Follis

The University of St. Thomas men's basketball team, ranked No. 4 in Division III, continues their championship pursuit with stellar defense while honoring the late Dr. Jack Follis.

The Celts are seeking their eighth straight championship, built on a defensive philosophy that players say defines their team. "We're the best defense we're going to play against," guard Corey Thompson said. "And we play against each other every day." Coach Anthony Medina, a four-time Coach of the Year graduate, credits the players for building the championship culture. "It comes from them," Medina said. "That's really them, like they manage the locker room, they manage the huddle, they manage the team."

During a recent game against Texas Lutheran, the UST community honored Dr. Follis, a longtime supporter who recently passed away. A plaque will be displayed in his usual spot at Jerabeck Center. "He genuinely supported them in the things they cared about," Medina said. "He showed up for them in the things they loved, and he made their passion his passion."
