Chargers to Release Guard Mekhi Becton

The Chargers announced that they will cut veteran guard Mekhi Becton, a move that will free $9.7 million in salary‑cap space. The two‑year deal signed in March 2025 contained no guaranteed money for 2026, allowing the team to release him without a cap penalty.

Becton appeared in 15 regular‑season games for the Chargers and started the playoff loss to the Patriots. The former 2020 Jets first‑round pick had struggled with injuries early in his career but earned a starting role with the Eagles in 2024, helping them to a Super Bowl win before signing with Los Angeles.
