Real Madrid eye Serie A manager as a target to replace Arbeloa – report

It is safe to say that Alvaro Arbeloa continuing as Real Madrid’s first-team coach beyond this season looks unlikely, for the results clearly do not have his back.

The manager may have restored partial stability in the dressing room, but his tactics on the field have not worked out well with the team losing one in three games under his command.

Los Blancos, thus, remain on the lookout for candidates who can potentially take over from the former player in June, and Corriere dello Sport provide an update on that front.

Indeed, as confirmed by the Italian outlet, Real Madrid are attentive to the situation of AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri for the summer and eye him as a potential candidate to take over command of the first team.

Florentino Perez wishes for an experienced presence on the sidelines, as was the case with Carlo Ancelotti, and thus does not want to repeat another Xabi Alonso or Arbeloa saga by hiring a relatively fresh name.

The Real Madrid chief does not approve of young and lesser-known options after the recent events.

Allegri, on that front, is a fine candidate as he has managed several top-flight Italian clubs over the years including AC Milan, Juventus and Sassuolo.

He has, in fact, been a target for the club in the past as well and was close to taking over the reins at Real Madrid in 2019 and 2021.

The manager averages a win percentage of 54% with 23% losses and draws each in his managerial career so far. A limitation, however, is that he has never coached a non-Italian club so far.

It remains to be seen how seriously Real Madrid pursues the managerial target in June and whether or not they have better-preferred options available. After all, Jurgen Klopp appears to be the favourite and is not completely ruled out.
