Robin Risser to replace Lucas Chevalier in France squad?

Just months ago, there was a feeling that Lucas Chevalier could make a play to become France’s No.1 in the very near future. That came following the goalkeeper’s move from Lille OSC to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.

However, the move has not worked out for the young Frenchman, or at least so far. His performances have been unconvincing and littered with errors. Chevalier has therefore been replaced by Matvey Safonov in goal. Even though Luis Enrique insists that there is no clear hierarchy, the Russian doesn’t look like being dislodged any time soon.

That is bad news for Chevalier. Not only will he fail to dislodge Mike Maignan before the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Le Parisien understands that he won’t even make Les Bleus’ squad for the upcoming international break.

Instead, it is expected to be one of Jean Butez (Como) or Robin Risser (RC Lens) who gets the nod later this month. They would come in as the No.3 option. Le Parisien understands that it is the latter who has a slight advantage over the former. Risser has already trained with the France squad, having done so when called up by the U21 side.
