Two of Arsenal’s attacking players made it into the Team of the Week last week, with Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze both featuring after their respective braces against Tottenham Hotspur.
But following Arsenal’s win over Chelsea on Sunday, Troy Deeney selected two defenders for the BBC’s Team of the Week.
The one thing the two teams had in common was that it was the Arsenal goalscorers making the cut in both cases, with William Saliba and Jurrien Timber selected on this occasion.

On Timber, Deeney said: “Yes he scored, but he locked down the whole right-hand side so much that Chelsea were forced to try to go through the middle which made Arsenal’s defending so much easier.”
As for Saliba, the pundit explained: “Rolls-Royce of a centre-back, very comfortable throughout. He was a calming influence and read the game so well. His goal also helps.”
Both were worthy picks. Despite all the talk about Arsenal’s set-piece goals, it’s gone somewhat under the radar that Chelsea’s only good opportunities came from corners and a cross that almost deceived David Raya to sneak in.
The Arsenal defence did a great job at shutting the opposition down from open play, limiting the visitors to speculative efforts from distance. As Deeney suggests, the fact two of those defenders then went up the other end and scored certainly helps.

Arsenal will need their defenders on top form again on Wednesday, against a Brighton side coming off the back of a couple of wins.
