Austin's Dahl takes second in backstroke at state meet

Feb. 28— Austin senior Brent Dahl was just a fraction of a second from his second straight state title in the 100-yard backstroke as he wrapped up his Packer career at the Class AA meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Saturday.

Dahl, who won the backstroke in Class A as a junior, finished in second this year with an Automatic All American time of 48.15 seconds. Patrick Curran of Edina edged out Dahl with a time of 47.07 seconds for first place in the backstroke.

Dahl finished in 11th place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:53.78. Mitch Davis of St. Cloud won the race with a time of 1:46.22.

Dahl has committed to swim at Division I Southern Illinois University next year.
