Report: Donald Trump invites Tiger Woods to college sports roundtable

There are few instances in which Tiger Woods wouldn't be the most famous person in the room. President Donald Trump's upcoming "College Sports Roundtable" might be one of them.

The president is gathering a who's who of American sports figures at the White House on March 6 to address the future of college athletics, as first reported by Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger. Among those invited are Woods, fellow golfer Bryson DeChambeau, former college football coaches Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Mack Brown, former college athletes Tim Tebow and Charlie Ward, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, Fox Sports president Eric Shanks and a host of college athletic directors, including Notre Dame's Pete Bevacqua.

It stands to reason that much of the discussion will be focused on name, image and likeness regulations, as well as television rights deals, eligibility rules and the current standing of the NCAA — an organization that has seen its ability to enforce its rules dwindle in recent years, as evidenced by legal proceedings like that of Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Trump will be the chair of the roundtable, with Florida Gov. Ron Desantis and New York Yankees president Randy Levine serving as vice chairs. Trump has been outspoken in his desire to rein in the current chaos of college sports through legislation, but that has yet to come to fruition. Perhaps this roundtable will be a starting point.

Woods' role in all of this remains to be seen — according to Dellenger, it's unclear if all those invited will attend and some are skeptical that the meeting will even take place — but it's not surprising to see his name on the list. Woods and Trump have a longstanding relationship. The two have played golf together in the past and last year, Woods attended a White House reception for Black History Month. In 2019, during Trump's first term, Woods received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Woods is also dating Trump's ex-daughter-in-law, Vanessa.

On top of that, Woods is becoming a major player in the sports and entertainment industry with his company, TMRW Sports, which he co-founded with fellow star golfer Rory McIlroy. TMRW Sports runs the TGL indoor golf league and was recently tapped by the NFL to help operate a new professional flag football league.
