Feb. 20—DENVER — Carson Johnson scored 32 points and the Denver Pioneers cruised past South Dakota 90-70 on Thursday night in Summit League men's basketball action.
The Pioneers led 37-34 at halftime and then spent most of the second half steadily pulling away from the Coyotes, closing the game on a 12-0 run to earn a decisive victory.
Johnson went 11-of-21 from the floor and hit 5-of-7 from outside the arc, as the Pioneers were 9-of-17 on 3s for the game and 23-of-25 at the line.
USD shot 50 percent for the game and went 24-of-35 at the line, getting 22 points and 10 rebounds from Cameron Fens, while Vince Buzelis added 19 points and Jordan Crawford 12.
With the win the Pioneers improve to 14-15 overall and 7-7 in conference play, while the Coyotes drop to 14-14 and 6-7.
USD will visit Oral Roberts on Saturday in Tulsa before closing out the regular season with a two-game homestand against Omaha and SDSU next Wednesday and Saturday.
