The Boston Celtics are temporarily filling one of their open roster spots with a familiar face.

The Celtics plan to sign guard Dalano Banton to a 10-day contract, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported Thursday.

Banton, 26, just completed a 10-day deal with the Clippers during which he appeared in two games for Los Angeles. The five-year veteran appeared in 24 games for the Celtics during the first half of the 2023-24 season, averaging 2.3 points over 7.1 minutes per game before Boston traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers at the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

Banton thrived in Portland, averaging a career-high 10.9 points over 97 games in one-and-a-half seasons before signing with the Dallas Mavericks’ G League affiliate in October 2025.

Banton’s 10-day deal will run through the end of February, at which point the Celtics will have to decide whether to sign him for the remainder of the season or let him become a free agent again.

After Banton’s addition, the C’s will have 13 players on their active roster with two open roster spots. Per Spotrac’s Keith Smith, they’ll likely sign another player to a 10-day deal in the near future to meet the NBA-minimum 14-player roster requirement.
