In a mock draft shocker, CBS Sports just dropped a twist on Cleveland Browns fans for Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
The common theme amongst mocks pre-free agency has been for Browns GM Andrew Berry to target his two biggest team weaknesses with the franchise's pair of first round picks. That would be offensive line and wide receiver.
Cleveland's offensive woes over the past couple of seasons have been well documented. Coming off a year where they scored the second fewest points-per-game, new head coach Todd Monken was hired to rejuvenate a dead offense. Of course he'll need the right players to make that happen.
Here are the two picks from analyst Blake Brockermeyer, followed by my thoughts on each selection.

No. 6
Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State (6'3", 195-lbs)
"You have to believe the Browns will use free agency and multiple picks to upgrade an aging offensive line. Tate brings extensive experience and the ability to win anywhere on the field. He's a polished route runner who tracks and high-points the ball in contested-catch situations. Tate is a dependable, trustworthy receiver with strong hands who moves the chains and gives Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders a weapon to help jumpstart the offense."
Analysis
It's a deep draft for quality wide receivers, but to me Tate is definitely the top dog. The Browns haven't drafted a wideout in the first round since the bust that was Corey Coleman in 2016. Time for Berry to go grab that stud playmaker.
No. 24 (via Jacksonville)
Cashius Howell, Edge, Texas A&M (6'2", 248-lbs)
"Myles Garrett and the Browns' defense would become even more dominant if they pair him with another skilled pass rusher. Howell wins with speed and a strong long arm, and he counters inside when tackles overset. He plays with a great motor and shows natural pass-rush instincts. Howell also has the twitch and get-off to create problems."
Analysis
I wholeheartedly disagree with this pick and would be absolutely floored if Howell's name is called by Cleveland. First of all, in November the Browns signed pass-rusher Alex Wright to a three-year $33-million extension. Draft pick Isaiah McGuire is also still on his rookie deal and is a key rotational piece.
Even if Berry is active in free agency to help rebuild the O-line, all five starters are currently unsigned. Using a premium first rounder on a lineman will very likely still be necessary.

MLB 26-and-under power rankings 2026: Ranking all 30 MLB teams by the young talent in the organization
Yahoo Sports’ 26-and-under power rankings are a remix on the traditional farm system rankings that assess the strength of MLB organizations’ talent base among rookie-eligible and MiLB players. By evaluating all players in an organization entering their age-26 seasons or younger, this project aims to paint a more complete picture of each team’s young core. Our rankings value productive young major leaguers more heavily than prospects who have yet to prove it at the highest level, and most prospects included in teams’ evaluations have already reached the upper levels of the minors.
To compile these rankings, each MLB organization was given a score in four categories:
Young MLB hitters: scored 0-10; 26-and-under position players and rookie-eligible hitters projected to be on Opening Day rosters
Young MLB pitchers: scored 0-10; 26-and-under pitchers and rookie-eligible pitchers projected to be on Opening Day rosters
Prospect hitters: scored 0-5; prospect-eligible position players projected to reach MLB in the next 1-2 years
Prospect pitchers: scored 0-5; prospect-eligible pitchers projected to reach MLB in the next 1-2 years
If you want to read more about our methodology, check out last year’s rankings for a deeper explanation.
We’re counting down all 30 organizations’ 26-and-under talent bases from weakest to strongest (with the top 10 coming later this week). Below is an overview of the scores for each team in each category and the key players who fall into each bucket. For a deeper dive into each organization, check out our tier-by-tier breakdowns: Nos. 30-26, Nos. 25-21, Nos. 20-16 and Nos. 15-11.
