Feb. 9—GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Through its first four matches, the Bemidji State women's tennis team is a perfect 4-0.
The Beavers beat Minnesota Morris and Minnesota Crookston 7-0 and 5-2, respectively, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Friday. While BSU has wins over Minnesota Duluth and UMC, both of those matches were in nonconference play.
Bemidji State's 4-0 start is the best in program history.
After sweeping Minnesota Morris, the Beavers had a trip of three-set wins over the Golden Eagles. Mia Leshem, Paula Garcia Acebal and Lauren Rutten each dropped their first set before storming back to wins.
Leshem won her No. 1 singles match 3-6, 6-2, 10-0. Garcia Acebal beat Asli Oktay 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 2 singles, while Rutten prevailed at No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-2, 10-3.
Leshem and Marla Davies pulled out a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Ana Lucía Ibáñez Castro and Valesca Rodriguez squeaked out a 7-6, 10-8 win at No. 3 doubles.
Bemidji State opens NSIC play on Feb. 13 against Minnesota Duluth on the road.
