For one Brockton Rox player, the big leagues are calling.
Brockton Rox catcher Hemmanuel Rosario has signed with the Houston Astros, landing a deal with a Major League Baseball (MLB) club.
"Join us in congratulating Rosario and wishing him the best as he takes the next step up," the Rox said in a Facebook post. "We’re rooting for you always."
The 25-year-old catcher was signed to a minor league contract with the Astros and assigned to the FCL Astros on Feb. 2, according to the MLB's website.
Jerod Edmondson, manager for the Brockton Rox, said Rasario will be greatly missed at the organization.
"I couldn't be happier for Rosie to have this opportunity to sign with the Houston Astros. After back to back great years in the frontier league, he has certainly earned a chance to advance to the next level, he said in a prepared statement. "He has been such a huge piece of the Brockton Rox organization, and we will miss having his presence in our lineup and his leadership in our clubhouse every day."
A message was left with the Houston Astros requesting a comment on the signing.
When does Brockton Rox's season start?
The Brockton Rox's first game of the season is scheduled for Thursday, May 7 at the New York Boulders.
When is Brockton Rox's home opener?
The Brockton Rox's first home game is scheduled for Friday, May 15 against the Ottowa Titans.
