The Texas Rangers were kept plenty busy over the winter. The front office made a ton of deals, both signing free agents and being involved in a few trades.

They signed Alexis Diaz to likely serve as the club's newest closer, and got a deal done for Chris Martin to return. However, their biggest splashes came in the form of trades.

They acquired Brandon Nimmo in a trade with the New York Mets and MacKenzie Gore in a trade with the Washington Nationals

MacKenzie Gore will now be added to a rotation that consists of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker, where Gore will likely serve as the No. 3 starter.

That is not a bad starting rotation, but Texas should enjoy it while it can. Gore will become a free agent after the 2027 season, and so will deGrom and Eovaldi. So, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand makes the case that the Rangers should extend Gore.

"Texas dealt five prospects for Gore this offseason, paying a hefty price to add the 2025 All-Star to its rotation. Gore is under control for two more seasons, putting him on track to become a free agent at the same time as Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi, who will be 39 and 37, respectively. Even if Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker take big steps forward, securing Gore beyond 2027 would help Texas in its transition post-deGrom/Eovaldi."

Both deGrom and Eovaldi will be getting up there in age when they hit the open market. So, why not lock up some younger talent who has already proven himself?

However, you must remember that he is represented by Scott Boras, someone who loves to get his clients to the open market and get them the most money possible.
