EDMESTON — Gavin Zinger scored a game-high 19 points as No. 2 seeded Edmeston won a Tri-Valley League playoff game, 50-36, over No. 3 Schenevus on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
The Panthers made offensive runs to start every quarter, including a 9-2 run to begin the game. On defense, Edmeston used a triangle and two, posting players on Dragon guards Allen Osborne and Ethan Reed.
Schenevus climbed back into the game in the first quarter, tying it at 9.
Edmeston led after one quarter, 11-10, but then went on a 12-2 run to begin the second quarter, and led at halftime, 23-15.
The Panthers began the third quarter on a 9-0 run and led 32-15 on Hunter Dye’s three-point basket with 4:21 left in the quarter.
In the fourth, Edmeston pushed the lead to as many as 19 points before the Dragons made a late run.
Sawyer Bridger scored 18 points and had nine rebounds to lead Schenevus, which also got nine points and 12 rebounds from Tim Green.
Braymon Clark scored 17 points for the Panthers, which also got12 points from Dye.
Edmeston (16-3) plays No. 1 seed Morris in the Tri-Valley League title game Friday, Feb. 20, at Unadilla Valley Central School.
Schenevus (11-6) hosts Worcester for a consolation game Thursday, Feb. 12.

Section III Class C championships
The Hawkeye boys claimed their second section title in three years as Cooperstown/Cherry Valley won a Section III Class C title Tuesday at Nottingham High School in Syracuse.
The Hawkeyes finished the meet with 478 points, 99 more than second-place Oneida.
Senior Thomas Hellenthal won the Class C Swimmer of the Meet Award and Coach John Hodgson won the Class C Coach of the Meet Award.
Hellenthal won titles in the 50 freestyle in :21.74 seconds and the 100 backstroke in :51.90.
Macon Aramini won the 500 freestyle in 5:16.27, and he also had a personal record in the 200 IM.
The Hawkeyes also got a win from the 400 freestyle relay team of London Kinley, Shepard Olsen, Aramini and Hellenthal.
The Cooperstown/Cherry Valley swimmers will return to Syracuse for the Section III State Qualifier on Thursday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Morris 37, Worcester 28
Ryan Murphy scored a game-high 17 points as top-seeded Morris won a Tri-Valley League playoff game Tuesday against visiting Worcester.
Derek Land scored 13 points to lead the Wolverines, which also got six points from Jonah Baldo.
Jonah Baldo scored seven points for Morris.
Morris (18-1) plays Edmeston in the TVL title game Feb. 20. The Mustangs beat the Panthers during the regular season, 61-50, on Jan. 29, in Morris.
Worcester (11-6) plays at Schenevus on Thursday.
Cooperstown 90, Sauquoit Valley 36
Miles Nelen scored a game-high 25 points as Cooperstown closed out its Center State Conference Division III schedule with a big win over Sauquoit Valley on Tuesday at Red Bursey Gymnasium.
Cooperstown led at halftime, 55-14.
Four other Hawkeyes scored in double figures: Jackson Crisman scored 19 points and also had nine rebounds. Cooper Coleman scored 13 points. Christian Lawson scored 12 points. Brody Murdock scored 10 points.
Wyatt Kimball scored 17 points for Sauquoit Valley (2-15, 0-8).
The game was supposed to be in Sauquoit, but an issue with the school gymnasium forced a late switch to a home game for the Hawkeyes.
Cooperstown (19-0, 10-0) closes out the regular season with a game at Thomas Proctor on Thursday in Utica.

Grady Loeffler scored a game-high 23 points as Sidney won a Midstate Athletic Conference on Tuesday at UV.
Denzel Porter scored a team-high 18 points for the Storm, which also got 10 points each from Preston York and Taylor Hodge.
Ayden O’Connor scored 20 points for the Sabers, which also got eight points from Jesse Newell and seven points from Deon Taylor.
Sidney (6-11, 5-4) plays in the MAC playoffs Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Unadilla Valley (0-18, 0-9) plays a MAC game at Greene on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Emma Urgo scored 18 points to lead the Purple Tornadoes, which also got 12 points from Brooklyn Burke and 11 points from Josey Ryan.
Kylie Carr had eight points and eight rebounds for the Yellowjackets, which also got 10 rebounds from Kendall LeFever.
