World Cup 2026: Algeria is preparing something big

Preparations for the Algeria national football team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 are starting to take shape. The staff, led by Vladimir Petković, has mapped out the main phases of the upcoming training camps to gradually build the Fennecs into a competitive force as the tournament draws nearer.

The first training block will take place in March with a camp set in Italy. On this occasion, the Algerian national team will play two friendly matches: first, a clash against the Guatemala national football team in Genoa, followed by a sterner test against the Uruguay national football team in Turin. These two fixtures are designed to get the squad back up to international speed after several weeks without competitive action.

Top-tier opponents lined up for June

According to Algerian outlet La Gazette du Fennec, preparations will reach a new level during the June international window. A showdown with the Netherlands national football team is already scheduled in Amsterdam, while the federation is working to secure another high-profile opponent, with the England national football team or Italy national football team among the options. These marquee matchups will serve as a dress rehearsal before Algeria’s World Cup opener against the Argentina national football team.
