Mohamed Salah hasn’t looked the same this season, with his performances falling short of what Liverpool fans have come to expect from him.
Arne Slot even left him out of the side for a few Premier League matches, hoping it would help the winger reset.
Salah then voiced his frustrations following the 3-3 draw against Leeds United before leaving to take part in AFCON, where he spent a month away from club duties.
He hasn’t managed to find form since returning either. And despite being put straight back into the team, he’s not giving any reasons to justify that decision so far.
Liverpool fans are concerned about his loss of pace, and with just six goals and six assists in 25 appearances this term, it’s a stark contrast to what he produced last season – 34 goals and 23 assists across 52 matches.
Sam Allardyce sheds light on Mohamed Salah’s ongoing struggles
Sam Allardyce has offered his perspective on why Mohamed Salah may be struggling this season.
Allardyce pointed to mental factors rather than physical issues, saying he believes the forward is still putting in the effort.
He went further, suggesting Liverpool should address things from a psychological angle to help get him back on track.
The former England manager told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “Look how many he scored or has continued to score year in year out. And it just seems to have left him, like I mean it’s not as if he’s not trying hard.
“You just need to do something with him [Salah] from a psychological point of view to put him back on track.”
“This is not a physical problem. This is a mental problem. And of course we all know that he just needs that one that drops and scores that can change it like that, can’t it?”
Salah’s drop in numbers adds to Liverpool’s wider issues
At his current pace, he’s on track to finish with around 12 goals and 12 assists this season.
That would make it his lowest tally since joining Liverpool from AS Roma back in 2017.
He made an immediate impact when he arrived, scoring 44 goals in all competitions during his debut campaign.
His lowest total came a couple of years later during the 19/20 season, where he had 23 goals and 13 assists. But that was also the year Liverpool finally won the Premier League title.
