Report: Inter opens talks with Goretzka (Sempre Inter)

Leon Goretzka will be leaving Bayern Munich in just a few months and the midfielder seems like he has his share of potential landing spots, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and AC Milan.

In addition to those clubs will be Inter Milan, who is — allegedly — having “preliminary talks” with Goretzka:

Inter Milan have begun preliminary talks over a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, with the club’s hierarchy already making initial contact as they plan a significant midfield rebuild ahead of next season.

According to L’Interista, Inter have opened talks with the German midfielder and his representatives. Goretzka will leave Bayern on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Therefore making him an attractive option for a club that prides itself on smart recruitment.

The stumbling block remains his salary, which is understood to be substantial. Inter would require Goretzka to accept a significant wage reduction before any deal could be agreed. And, indeed, that negotiation will be central to whether the move happens.

How willing Goretzka is to actually take a pay cut is what remains to be seen. At this stage, it can be assumed that it will be Goretzka last “big” contract and he might want to maximize what he can get.

Wirtz continues ascent (Who Scored)

Don’t look now, but it seems like Florian Wirtz is turning it around at Liverpool. Hopefully, he will be able to build some momentum as the World Cup draw closer. Wirtz will be a vital figure for the German national team:

Shearer says Woltemade an issue for Magpies (Football 365)

Man…this situation for Nick Woltemade is getting odd. Now, Woltemade has pundits like Alan Shearer taking aim at him:

Speaking after Newcastle’s defeat to Manchester City, Shearer questioned whether the club-record signing has found his place in Howe’s system.

“Clearly, Woltemade is an issue for Newcastle. The money they spent on him, near enough £70million, then deciding to play Gordon as a centre-forward, tells you he’s not quite been what they thought he could be in that position.”

“They’re trying to work out what’s best for him. Is he a No.10? Probably not. They try and play him in more of a midfield role… you see he can’t press, because he hasn’t got the legs, he hasn’t got the energy to do what Eddie Howe’s teams have done which have made Newcastle successful over the years.

“You saw that with the second Manchester City goal, when he went to press he was beaten far too easily. He is an issue for Newcastle. It was always going to be a difficult situation because of the Alexander Isak situation, because of what he did and what happened. It hasn’t worked well for anyone.”

Reports this week have suggested Newcastle would consider selling Woltemade this summer if the right offer arrives. Bayern Munich, who held talks before his move to England, are among the clubs monitoring the situation, although the Magpies are not understood to be actively pushing him out.

The Germany international has time to turn it around, but it is starting to feel like he could become the latest Bundesliga star to chase the money in England before he was ready to commit to making the move. In the end, Woltemade really might have needed more seasoning before leaving Germany.

Messi meltdown? (Centre Goals)

You know it was bad if Inter Miami’s Luis Suárez was playing the role of peacemaker:

MLS is reportedly looking into this incident (does anyone believe they are going to crack down on the GOAT?).
