The Golden State Warriors return from the All-Star Break to host the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM PT at Chase Center and will be available on Amazon Prime and NBC Sports Bay Area.
Previously with the Warriors:
Golden State entered the break just three games above .500 after a 126–113 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors showed fight early, building a lead that grew to as much as 16 points in the third quarter behind a spirited defensive effort. However, their ongoing offensive limitations showed late, as San Antonio closed the game on a dominant 32–19 fourth quarter. De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama led the way for the Spurs, combining for 58 points.
What to watch for tonight:
The Warriors will once again be without Stephen Curry, who is set to miss his sixth straight game while managing runner’s knee. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Curry’s knee shows no signs of structural damage, but a timetable for his return still remains unclear.
On a positive note, Thursday night is expected to mark the Warriors debut of Kristaps Porzingis, whom the team acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield. His first appearance in a Golden State uniform comes against a familiar opponent — the Celtics, the team he won a championship with just two years ago.
The matchup carries added meaning for Porzingis and former Boston big man Al Horford, both of whom reflected on the opportunity to face their former team.
