The New York Jets have to get creative when searching for their next starting quarterback this offseason. The team unfortunately clinched the No. 2 overall selection in a 2026 NFL draft that is being described as a one-quarterback draft. The overwhelming expectation is that the Las Vegas Raiders will take Fernando Mendoza with the top pick.
The Jets may target a mid-round quarterback instead, one with upside to potentially develop into a starter. One of the possible options was Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
Well, not anymore.
Chambliss has been granted a sixth season of eligibility by a state court judge in Mississippi. The injunction arrived on Thursday.

Chambliss prefers to return to college for another season, foregoing an opportunity to enter the 2026 NFL draft. He's expected to make significant money via an NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deal at Ole Miss. Chambliss rather explore that opportunity, delaying his entry into the NFL another year.
If the Jets were interested in Chambliss, they're forced to pivot. Other mid-round quarterback options could include Ty Simpson, Garrett Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.
Pairing a veteran quarterback with a developmental rookie would make sense for general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn.
Chambliss is officially off the table until 2027.
