With the 2025 NFL season officially in the rearview, all 32 teams across the league, including the San Francisco 49ers, are preparing for the offseason, and specifically, free agency.
While 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's contract hasn't run out, the team is planning to move on from him after he stopped communicating with the team during his ACL rehab last season.
Some teams may not be willing to rely on Aiyuk in 2026, but at least one quarterback is already lobbying for his team to bring the wideout in this offseason.
“There are a couple of individuals who are out there," Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels told Nate Tice on the "Football 301" podcast last week. "Maybe somebody from Arizona State, in my past. There are people like that out there. I don't want to give too much, but when that time comes, hopefully we can sign those types of players.”
Aiyuk and Daniels played one season together at Arizona State in 2019 before the receiver became a first-round pick. In that year, Aiyuk caught 65 passes for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns on his way to All-Pac-12 honors.
Daniels played with former 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel this past year, and with former 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters running Washington's front office, there's even more familiarity with Aiyuk that could lead to a reunion.
