The Devil’s Mark by WD Jackson-Smart – Book Review

PUBLISHERS BLURB

Bloody remains. Multiple victims. Ritual sacrifice?

When a blood-stained effigy of body parts is found in a central London park, D.I Daniel Graves must set about trying to discover what it could mean and find the person responsible. Symbols at the crime scene suggest the occult. Who would leave a murder victim in such a way, and why?

As Graves and partner DI Charlie Palmer begin to investigate the ritual and the act of human sacrifice, they enlist the help of Charlotte Gooding, a talented professor specialising in the subject. They hope to narrow down on a motive. Could the killer believe in the supernatural? Witchcraft even?

Then the next crime scene is found. More blood, more symbols, and out in the open. It seems the killer wants the world to pay attention, but why? How are they choosing their victims?

The pressure is on for Graves to put an end to the murders before more remains show up in brutal tableaus. One thing is for sure, this killer is out for blood and is not afraid to make it a very public display.

There’s just one problem. Grave’s past is still not behind him. Someone is eager to make sure he doesn’t forget, cannot move on. And they’re not playing games anymore. There may be an occult killer out there, but now there’s another out for blood, Daniel Grave’s blood.

MY REVIEW

The Devil’s Mark is #3 in the DI Graves series, it can also be read as a stand-alone.

Here DI Graves and his partner, DI Palmer are investigating a murder after body parts are found in a London park. As they try to identify the victim more body parts are found and it looks like a serial killer is at work.

There seems to be a ritualistic part to the killings and so enlist Professor Gooding to help. What links the victims? What is the meaning of the symbols left at the scenes?

This is fast paced, dark and violent as the crime scenes are horrific and with the occult edge giving some creepy moments. The relationship between Graves and Palmer is clever and they work well together and make a great team as they delve deeper they have each other’s backs…..they’ll need it!

A dark and clever plot, with great characters make this a truly gripping tale that will have you hooked from the very start.

From Inside The House by W.D. Jackson-Smart – Book Review

PUBLISHERS BLURB

Two victims. Brutally murdered in their own home. Body parts taken.

D.I. Graves is back on the case to face his toughest challenge yet. A case with no motive and no suspect, nothing at all that could explain why someone would kill innocent people in such a way.

Then the next victims are discovered. Another pair of bodies. New body parts taken. Again in their own home.

Someone is breaking into houses across the city at night, leaving horror in their wake. It seems to Graves that this could be two serial killers, working together. But how are they choosing their victims? Is any house in London a target? Is anyone safe

To make matters worse, a journalist is threatening to cause more harm than good with her obsessive push in covering the story to further her career, and someone is targeting Graves personally, seeking revenge against him in relation to an old case.

Can Graves keep himself safe long enough to stop the serial killers before they strike again?

MY REVIEW

#2 in the DI Daniel Graves series, it can be read as a stand-alone, but if you haven’t read #1 you are missing out on the start of a great series…

DI Graves and his partner, DI Charlie Palmer are called to a murder scene….nothing like they have seen before in its brutality.

But then, a second couple are murdered and the similarities suggest the same killer or killers….they have taken body parts too.

Daniel is still trying to come to terms with the death of Jenny and her killer is still taunting him….(from book #1).

With a high profile case, the press are everywhere and one journalist, Kelly, will do anything to get an exclusive, even putting herself in extreme danger.

This is a dark and twisted tale, what the killers do with the body parts is particularly horrific. I can’t say much more about the plot for fear of spoiling it, but it has a bit of everything, even touching on mental health issues, with Daniel’s panic attacks…..there’s murder, fear, family and someone is still out there! Compelling and utterly brilliant. I’m looking forward to the next in the series already….

The Demons Beneath by WD Jackson-Smart – Book Review

B03427FC-2D81-4952-8A71-57CD2622212E

PUBLISHERS BLURB

A detective new to London. A possible serial killer. And a demon?

When a bloody corpse is discovered in a North London park, Detective Inspector Daniel Graves is the man tasked with finding the killer. With no clues and no suspects it seems like a dead end. Then another body turns up and this time it looks like it could be his fault. Has his investigation caused the murderer to strike again? Is he dealing with a serial killer?

As the case gets ever more complicated, a report comes in of another suspicious death but this is nothing like any other Graves has dealt with. All involved are convinced that something supernatural is to blame. A demon. Daniel is no believer but could he be wrong?

With two cases on his shoulders and the truth behind each beyond his grasp, Graves must race against time before both killers, human or otherwise, strike again.

MY REVIEW

This is #1 in a new series featuring DI Daniel Graves.

DI Daniel Graves is new to London’s Met Police and is on the Homicide and Serious Crime Command and is called to the body of a man found with a horrific wound. Then the victim’s boss is found murdered too with similarities…..is a serial killer at work? And what is the link to the mysterious Banksy of the tattooing world?

Running alongside this is the story of the Morris family, they are being terrified in their home by something spooky….the children are too frightened to go in their bedroom and things are being moved around…they are contacted by a demonologist, Catherine Delamar. She tells them a demon called Adremelech has made its home there….she can perform an exorcism to clear the house. Creepy stuff.

DI’s Graves and Palmer and Sargeant Harding make a great team and I love the gentle banter between them. Two completely different cases but the writing is so good they work well alongside each other. So many tense moments too that keep you utterly gripped.

Will they find out who is the tattoo killer? And are demons walking this earth?

And OMG!!!! That ending…..I really can’t wait for Book #2. Game On!
