No Love Lost by Robert Crouch – Book Review

PUBLISHERS BLURB

How can a simple job interview end in complete carnage?

When Mandy Paige seeks Kent Fisher’s help to find the mother who abandoned her as a baby, he has no idea of the mayhem his investigation will unleash. With only a photograph of a woman he once knew, he discovers she left her office one Friday afternoon twenty years ago and never returned.

Did Helen Cassidy escape an abusive husband or was she abducted and murdered?

People connected to Helen begin to die in mysterious circumstances. An old foe returns, leaving cryptic messages on the windscreen of Kent’s car. He seems to know Kent’s every move, hounding and taunting the sleuth, attacking those who can help him solve the mystery.

When the main suspect dies, Kent’s investigation lies in tatters – until he realises he’s not the one pursuing the killer. The killer’s pursuing him.

MY REVIEW

No Love Lost is #6 in the Kent Fisher series, it can also be read as a stand-alone.

Kent is an environmental health officer, an animal sanctuary owner and amateur detective. His personal life is an integral part of the stories and in this one, he’s single again and something from his past back has come to bite him.

He begins investigating an old mystery and what he finds has repercussions for many people’s lives. The body count begins to rise. Can he solve this mystery without any more deaths?

Kent is a marvellously complex, likeable character with an engaging humour and slight eccentricity about him. The plot has twists, turns and some shocks and heartbreaking moments too. It really has it all. Such a brilliant series, so well written it is completely engrossing from start to finish.

Thank you to the author, Robert Crouch for the opportunity to be part of this book launch, for the promotional material and an eARC of No Love Lost. This is my honest and unbiased review review.

MY REVIEW

#5 in the Kent Fisher mystery series and yes it can be read as a stand-alone but you are missing a great series….

Kent is an animal sanctuary owner, an Environmental Health Officer and a private detective, an eclectic mix to say the least. His personal life is a mess, an ex turns up in a wedding dress, wanting him back and  Freya his new partner wants him to decide just want he wants.

But, when a client of Freya’s is found dead, an apparent suicide, she asks Kent to look into it for her. He speaks to the police too and agrees something is not as it seems. So the mystery begins….

When a disgruntled restaurateur, who has made a complaint about Kent and the council, is found dead the mystery deepens. Is Kent himself in danger?

This is an intriguing murder mystery with a great character in Kent, his gentle humour brings a lightness to the tale. Great fun, an intriguing mystery and thoroughly entertaining.

Thank you to the author, Robert Crouch, for the opportunity to read this for free. This is my honest and unbiased review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

BE99B6EB-AFED-4D23-A2C5-57717BB37C41

Robert Crouch writes the kind of books he loves to read. Books ranging from the classic whodunit by authors like Agatha Christie, the feisty private eye novels of Sue Grafton, thrillers by Dick Francis, and the modern crime fiction of Peter James and LJ Ross.

He created Kent Fisher as an ordinary person, drawn into solving murders. He’s an underdog battling superior forces and minds, seeking justice and fair play in a cruel world. These are the values and motivations that underpinned Robert’s long career as an environmental health officer.

He now writes full time from his home in East Sussex. When not writing, he’s often find walking on the South Downs with his West Highland white terrier, Harvey, taking photographs and researching the settings for future Kent Fisher mysteries.

Kent Fisher Mystery #4

Kent Fisher gets more than he bargained for when Detective Inspector Ashley Goodman enlists his help with a ten year old murder. She’s on a mission and needs a big case to put her career back on track.

And they don’t come much bigger than Miles Birchill, Downland’s wealthiest and most divisive resident.

Not for the first time, Kent has doubts about the case, forcing him to make choices. But who do you trust when everyone has something to hide?

Caught in the middle, he has no alternative but to solve the murder, unaware that his every move is being watched.

The Kent Fisher novels offer a fresh and contemporary reworking of the classic whodunit and murder mysteries of authors like Agatha Christie.

MY REVIEW

#4 in the Kent Fisher series…

DI Ashley Goodman approached Kent at his animal sanctuary, wanting his help with a case. A body had been found, 5 years ago, but new leads that involves Kent….

She says, Miles Birchill is involved……Kent’s biological father with a bit of a dodgy past….

Ash Goodman had transferred to Brighton under a bit of a cloud and sees solving this crime as a way to resurrect her career…..but why is she so certain Miles is involved?

Kent is an Health and Safety Officer, not a Detective or police officer, but in his line of work he does have access to certain records, which help in his investigations. He is a kind soul, with a daft sense of humour and a love of animals. Such a great character, and Freya is a hoot with her ‘blunderbra’….!

A thoroughly entertaining, cosy-ish crime thriller by Robert Crouch, with some great one liners and a clever plot.

My thanks to Caroline Vincent at Bits About Books for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my free ebook which I received in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Inspired by Miss Marple, Inspector Morse and Columbo, Robert Crouch wanted to write entertaining crime fiction the whole family could enjoy.

At their heart is Kent Fisher, an environmental health officer with more baggage than an airport carousel. Passionate about the environment, justice and fair play, he’s soon embroiled in murder.

Drawing on his experiences as an environmental health officer, Robert has created a new kind of detective who brings a unique and fresh twist to the traditional murder mystery. With complex plots, topical issues and a liberal dash of irreverent humour, the Kent Fisher mysteries offer an alternative to the standard police procedural.

Robert now writes full time and lives on the South Coast of England with his wife and their West Highland White Terrier, Harvey, who appears in the novels as Kent’s sidekick, Columbo.
