PUBLISHERS BLURB

Someone wants her dead, and she can’t remember why.

Zoe is a wife and a mother. Or so she’s been told. Ask her for more than that and she couldn’t tell you. The blow to her head wiped her memory clean.

Zoe knows the blood on her shirt isn’t just her own. After she was found stumbling out of the woods, the police ran tests. They say it belongs to her missing daughter.

Zoe is trying to piece together what her daughter’s face looks like, but all she can conjure up is a white-hot panic. A fear that her child is in desperate need of her help.

When a man claiming to be her husband turns up looking for her, she knows she can’t trust him. Until she gets her memories back, she can’t trust anyone. Not the stranger, not the police investigating, not even herself…

A completely addictive thriller that will keep you guessing into the early hours of the morning. Perfect for fans of The Silent Patient, Lisa Regan and Gregg Olsen.

MY REVIEW

#3 in the Detective Jo Fournier series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. But you will be missing out on a fantastic series…(I know because I’ve read the previous two).

This starts with a woman being found covered in blood. She’d been running through the woods, but from what?

Due to some unknown trauma, the woman has no memory of events or even her own name.

Jo and her colleague, Bob, are investigating the case. Just whose blood is all over the woman’s clothes if it’s not all her own?

The woman takes the name Zoe and is sent to a secure hospital for her recovery and safety. But then one night she disappears….

Can Jo find out Zoe’s true identity and just what traumatised her so much?

Jo is a great character, independent and pretty tough, but has her own personal problems to deal with too….and even a potential romance.

A clever, twisty plot to keep you guessing from start to finish. Completely engrossing and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Taken To The Grave by M M Chouinard – Book Review

A32AAF3F-224D-45FE-AD7C-A7486EE33D8E

PUBLISHERS BLURB

In a town full of secrets, the truth won’t stay buried…

When a girl’s body is discovered in a park in the sleepy Massachusetts town of Oakhurst, local detective Jo is shocked to the core. Because the girl is the second innocent victim to turn up dead in three days. And just like the first, a tarot card has been left by the body. The meaning of the card: betrayal.

After uncovering a series of threatening messages targeting the girl, a student at the university, and the first victim, her teacher, Jo thinks she’s locked the killer in her crosshairs. The primary suspect is a volatile ex-military student with an axe to grind for failing grades, and the frightened town is out for his blood. But the next day, a much-loved member of the community is found dead in her home, a tarot card in her mail. There’s no clear motive to link her death to the others, and the message on the card this time is even stranger: domestic bliss.

With a fourth body and card appearing the following day, Jo knows she’s running out of time to crack the code and bring the killer to justice. And the pressure only gets worse with heart-breaking news about Jo’s father forcing her to choose between helping her family heal or the victims’ families get justice. Can Jo find the twisted murderer sending the town into a panic before another life is lost? Or this time, will the dangerous killer find her first?

A completely addictive detective thriller that will keep you guessing into the early hours of the morning. If you love Kendra Elliot, Melinda Leigh and Lisa Regan you’ll love Taken to the Grave.

MY REVIEW

This is #2 in the Jo Fournier series by M M Chouinard, but can very easily be read as a stand-alone.

Jo is a detective and with her partner, Bill Arnett they are called to a suspicious death at a university. Professor Michael Whorton has been stabbed, a tarot card is found at the scene. They talk to many colleagues and students and find he was not a likeable man, a bully, a philanderer and a sex pest. So many suspects, but one stands out….Greg Crawley. He believes he was victimised by Whorton, his grades deliberately low so he lost his funding, he also has mental health issues.

But, then more bodies are found, all with links to the university and Michael.

Jo is such a likeable character, well developed and her family problems are so relatable …a father diagnosed with cancer and a sister on ‘the fast train to martyrdom’, all the while she is investigating multiple murders.

A tale of university politics, sexual harassment and a disturbing murderer. The chapters from the killer perspective are disturbing for their lack of emotion, so blasé about taking a life, real goosebumpy moments. A fast paced, gripping thriller, with a twisty plot. Totally compelling.

The Dancing Girls by M.M. Chouinard – Book Review

32C822F0-507F-40F7-9608-082D5D515A9C

PUBLISHERS BLURB

The light in her wide brown eyes dimmed as she drew her last breath. She might have been beautiful lying there on the floor, if it wasn’t for the purple marks on her neck and the angry red line on her finger where her wedding band used to be…

When Jeanine Hammond is found dead in a hotel in the picture-perfect town of Oakhust, newly-promoted Detective Jo Fournier is thrown into a disturbing case. Who would murder this shy, loving wife and leave her body posed like a ballerina?

Jo wants to know why Jeanine’s husband is so controlling about money, and where Jeanine’s wedding ring is, but before she and her team can get close to the truth, another woman is found strangled in a hotel, arms placed gracefully above her head like a dancer.

While digging through old case files, Jo makes a terrifying link to a series of cold cases: each victim bears the same strangulation marks. But the FBI won’t take Jo seriously, and if she disobeys direct orders by investigating the killings outside of her jurisdiction, it will mean the end of the career she’s already sacrificed so much for, even her relationship.

Just as Jo is beginning to lose hope, she finds messages on the victims’ computers that make her question whether these small-town women were hiding big lies. Jo thinks this is the missing link between the victims, but she knows the killer is moments away from selecting his next victim. Will it lead her to the most twisted killer of her career in time, or will another innocent life be lost?

An absolutely unputdownable and brilliant new crime thriller series that fans of Robert Dugoni, Lisa Regan and Melinda Leigh will devour in one sitting.

MY REVIEW

Martin knew he wasn’t a psychopath. He’d done his research, so much so that he probably knew more about serial killers than most profilers did.”

Jeanine’s body is found in a hotel room, spangled and left lying on the floor..had she been posed or just fallen oddly?

Jo Fournier is called in to investigate along with her partner, Bob Arnett….They feel something is off about how the body is lying but can’t put their finger on it…

Then a second woman is found a few weeks later, Emily. Similarly posed, strangled and her wedding ring is missing…just what connects these two women.

Jo finds more deaths with similar MO’s and feels there is a link, and she will not let it go….

What follows is an absolutely gripping thriller that really brings to light the dangers of online grooming…it’s not just young people who are targeted, but sometimes people who are a little vulnerable, looking for a connection with another human being, someone who ‘sees’ them after living with passive neglect from their own families and partners…..

World of Warcraft is an original setting for the grooming, but it made sense….the escapism and chatting with other ‘players’….

I found the chapters showing the online chats between Martin and his potential victims truly terrifying, it seems so innocuous but the menace behind it is palpable….I enjoyed the police procedural part too and the atmosphere of sheer menace is a credit to M.M.Chouinard’s gripping writing..

I loved the relationship between Jo and Arnett, the friendly banter and heartfelt chats really brought them to life…

Will Jo manage to find Martin before he kills again? Will Diana survive?……

With a stunning ending, I loved every minute and read this in one sitting and can thoroughly recommend it for anyone who loves a serial killer thriller…I’ll certainly be looking out for #2 in the Jo Fournier series.
