MLBPA Vows to Fight Salary Cap

MLBPA interim director Bruce Meyer vowed the union will fight management's salary cap proposal, stating 'our union has never been broken and never will be' amid negotiations that could lead to a lockout after Dec. 1.

MLB proposed a salary cap last week that would limit team spending to $245.3 million by 2027, with a payroll floor of $171.2 million. The Dodgers, baseball's biggest spenders, had a $415.2 million payroll this season—$170 million over the proposed cap. fish-roadgame.com

The union countered with proposals for expanded free agency, salary arbitration rights, nearly doubling the major league minimum, and increased revenue sharing. Baseball has experienced nine work stoppages since 1972, though regular-season games haven't been lost since the 1994-95 strike.
