Detroit Tigers top prospect Kevin McGonigle learned he made the MLB roster Tuesday morning via a text message from manager A.J. Hinch.

McGonigle sat down with Hinch and president of baseball operations Scott Harris, skipping Triple-A to start the season. The 21-year-old shortstop called his family immediately after the meeting, with his father joking about needing tickets.
