Portland Fire, Toronto Tempo to Hold 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft

On April 3, the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo will conduct the 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft, picking from unprotected players after existing teams submit rosters.

The 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft is scheduled for Friday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN. A coin toss between the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo will decide whether the winner picks first in the draft and receives the No. 7 college draft pick, or defers to pick second and gains the No. 6 pick.

Each team will select up to six players in two rounds from a list of unprotected players compiled after the 13 current franchises name their five protected players by March 29. Only one player can be drafted from each existing team, and teams may select only one potential unrestricted free agent. The draft will alternate picks after the first round, with the first‑pick team receiving the second‑round second pick.
