Judge Rules: 2022 Grads Get Extra Year of CFB Eligibility
U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney granted an injunction against the NCAA, allowing high school athletes who graduated in 2022 and exhausted their eligibility another year to compete. This ruling addresses the "five-for-five" rule, permitting athletes to play for five seasons in five years starting at age 19 or enrollment.
While programs can add depth to rosters from previous classes without using the transfer portal, players 20 or older at the start of the eligibility clock remain ineligible. The NCAA plans to appeal the decision.
