The deal is reportedly worth $135 million with $102 million guaranteed, which makes Gonzalez the highest-paid cornerback in league history.
Gonzalez, the No. 17 overall pick of the 2023 draft, had been seeking a new deal throughout the offseason. There was some question as to whether or not Gonzalez would play in New England’s season opener against Seattle on Thursday night.
Now that the contract is settled, Gonzalez has every reason to be on the field.
Gonzalez, 24, was a second-team AP All-Pro in 2024 and a Pro Bowler in 2025. He had 10 passes defensed in 14 regular-season games last year. He also had seven passes defensed, a forced fumble, and an interception in New England’s four 2025 postseason games.
New England and Seattle will kick off the 2026 season on Wednesday night at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

Lille vs Betis: Ancelotti Faces Pellegrini in Champions Clash
Lille, the fourth-placed team in the French league, makes its tenth Champions League appearance in the club's history. The northern France club, from the historical region of Flanders, finished third in Ligue 1 last season and is now led by 37-year-old Davide Ancelotti, who makes his Champions League coaching debut against Betis.
The match features an interesting generational contrast as Ancelotti, the youngest coach in the competition at 37 years old, faces 72-year-old Manuel Pellegrini of Betis - the oldest coach in the tournament. The 35-year age difference between the two managers adds an intriguing subplot to this crucial European encounter.
