Doha, Qatar: Al Rayyan coach Vicente Moreno expects a tough challenge from Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab in the Gulf Club Champions League (GCCL) final today as his side targets a second trophy in as many weeks. milkshakeslot.online
The Lions, who lifted the QSL Cup last week, have produced an impressive campaign in the competition, topping their group before defeating Kuwait’s Al Qadsia SC 2-0 in the semi-final.
However, Moreno cautioned his players against Al Shabab, describing the Saudi side as strong and well-balanced opponents.
“We must be cautious against a strong and distinguished team that includes top-quality players,” said the Al Rayyan coach on the eve of the final, which kicks off at 6:45pm at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
“The final will be different and requires the highest level of concentration. It will be a tough match because both sides will do their best to lift the trophy.”
He added that Al Rayyan’s preparations have gone well, with the focus firmly on delivering the required level to secure the title.
“We will enter the final with high morale, especially since the match is being held at our home ground. The team’s preparations for the final were good, and the focus is currently on delivering the expected level in order to win and be crowned with the Gulf title,” he said.
Midfielder Julien De Sart also expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the final showdown.
“We are aiming to deliver a performance that will help us win the championship title. We invite Al Rayyan fans, as their support will motivate the players to perform at their best level,” he said.
Al Shabab reached the final after a dramatic semi-final against Iraq’s Zakho SC, winning 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time.
Coach Noureddine Zekri expressed strong belief in his team’s ability to deliver another decisive performance.
“I am confident in the team’s ability to deliver a great performance in the final and win the Gulf title. Al Shabab have a great history and a historic opportunity to return to the podium after 12 years,” he said.
He further acknowledged the strength of their opponents, praising Al Rayyan’s performances throughout the competition.
“It is going to be a challenging match because Al Rayyan have shown outstanding levels in the tournament and will be playing at home in front of their fans,” he added.
Al Shabab striker Abderrazak Hamdallah also underlined the team’s determination ahead of the final.
“We will enter the match with great enthusiasm and aim to please the fans by winning the title,” said the Al Shabab player.
Al Ahli made to 'suffer' in winning Asian Champions
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: Al Ahli had to "suffer" in becoming the first club in more than two decades to win back-to-back Asian Champions League titles, their relieved coach said.
The Saudi side, playing at home in Jeddah, had a man sent off before overcoming Japan's stubborn Machida Zelvia 1-0 in extra time on Saturday.

The defending champions retained the trophy thanks to substitute Feras Al Buraikan's 96th-minute goal in front of 58,984 at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
Al Ahli had been reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when defender Zakaria Hawsawi was shown a straight red card for violent conduct for a headbutt.
"We had opportunities to score but it became harder after Hawsawi was sent off for an unnecessary action," their German coach Matthias Jaissle said, according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
"But we showed the right mentality and the players kept believing and that makes me so proud as a coach.
"We talked about it at the break that with a man down we had to suffer more and work harder.
However, we have quality players who can make one moment count."
Jaissle admitted that playing as hosts in front of a home crowd roaring them on had been significant.
The AFC put the latter rounds of Asia's top club competition in Jeddah, handing Jeddah-based Al Ahli a clear advantage.
"Obviously a part of it (winning) was because we played here in Jeddah in front of our fans who pushed us and gave us extra energy," he said.
"To win it back to back is something historic.
"Feels a bit weird. My tank is a bit empty. So much relief because the pressure was on.
"It will take a couple of days for this to sink in."

Inspiring line-up of riders announced for 2026 Markel Magnolia Cup at Goodwood, Supporting Education Above All Foundation
Doha, Qatar: An exceptional group of women from across the globe has been announced for the 2026 Markel Magnolia Cup, one of the most anticipated highlights of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, presented by Visit Qatar at Goodwood Racecourse in West Sussex, United Kingdom.
This year’s charity race will raise funds for the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, a global education foundation dedicated to expanding access to quality education and opportunities for vulnerable children and youth.
Taking place on Ladies’ Day, Thursday, July 30, 2026, the Markel Magnolia Cup will see 12 amateur riders charge down Goodwood’s iconic home straight, marking the culmination of months of rigorous preparation. Representing a diverse range of backgrounds, the riders have undergone intensive training, including early morning riding sessions, jockey fitness assessments, and professional evaluations at the British Racing School.
This year’s line-up reflects resilience, determination, and purpose beyond the racetrack. Among the riders are a breast cancer survivor, a reconstructive microsurgeon supporting women post-cancer treatment, accomplished business leaders, a Riding A Dream Academy graduate, media personalities, and international participants, each bringing a unique and powerful story to the race.
Since its launch in 2011, the Markel Magnolia Cup has raised over £3.5 million for children’s and women-focused charities, while championing greater inclusion and representation in horse racing.
This year, proceeds will support the work of the Education Above All Foundation, which has helped provide access to quality education and employment opportunities for more than 18 million children and young people across 77 countries since its establishment in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.
The Duke of Richmond said: “We are very much looking forward to supporting Education Above All Foundation as the charity partner of this year's Markel Magnolia Cup. Over the past 15 years, the Markel Magnolia Cup has become a powerful force for real and lasting change, championing women and raising more than £3.5 million for vital causes.
“I am confident that the generosity of our partners, sponsors and racegoers, as well as the dedication and commitment of our riders, will allow us to deliver meaningful support to Education Above All Foundation. We wish this year’s riders all the best in their training and look forward to seeing them race down Goodwood’s home straight in July.”
Education Above All Foundation Director of Communications and Engagement, Al Jazi Darwish, said: “The Markel Magnolia Cup is a powerful example of how sport can be harnessed to drive meaningful change. These remarkable women are not only taking on a personal challenge, but also standing in solidarity with millions of children around the world who are denied access to education.
At Education Above All Foundation, we believe education is the most effective pathway to transform lives and build more peaceful, inclusive societies. The support generated through this initiative will help us continue reaching children and young people affected by poverty, conflict, and crisis, ensuring they have the opportunity to learn, thrive, and shape their own futures.”
