Plan For The Worst by Jodi Taylor – Book Review

PUBLISHERS BLURB

The eleventh book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary’s series. If you love Jasper Fforde, Ben Aaronovitch or Doctor Who, you won’t be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

I would have trusted this man with my life. Until a couple of days ago, anyway.

You know what they say – hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Max is quite accustomed to everything going wrong. She’s St Mary’s, after all. Disaster is her default state. But with her family reunited and a jump to Bronze Age Crete in the works, life is getting back to normal. Well, normal for St Mary’s.

And then, following one fateful night at the Tower of London, everything Max thought she knew comes crashing down around her.

Too late for plans. The worst has happened. And who can Max trust now?

MY REVIEW

This is book #11 in the Chronicles of St Mary’s series.

Firstly, I have to say I. Like a kid at Christmas when a new Jodi Taylor book is published and this really doesn’t disappoint.

Max and her merry gang of disaster magnets are off on their adventures again, they visit London in search of missing princes, Max comes close to drowning and secrets come to light which change her feeling towards a member of the team. Max also makes friends with Vikings and the main trip is to Crete and the Minoan empire as a volcanic eruption is due….what they don’t expect are bulls and an old enemy arriving just at the wrong time!

Can they all return to St Mary’s unscathed or has Max angered the gods of time just once too often?

This had me hooting with laughter at times, the mix of fantasy ‘time travel’, historical fact and madcap humour make this a thoroughly entertaining read. I’ll never look at a frozen chicken in the same way again! Brilliant.

Thank you so much to Headline for an ARc of the book. This is my honest and unbiased review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

83BD42E9-E78F-40AD-ACC8-D019E79B8033

Jodi Taylor is the internationally bestselling author of the Chronicles of St Mary’s series, the story of a bunch of disaster-prone individuals who investigate major historical events in contemporary time. Do NOT call it time travel!

Born in Bristol and now living in Gloucester (facts both cities vigorously deny), she spent many years with her head somewhere else, much to the dismay of family, teachers and employers, before finally deciding to put all that daydreaming to good use and write a novel. Nearly twenty books later, she still has no idea what she wants to do when she grows up.
