PUBLISHERS BLURB

A shocking, mesmerisingly original, pitch-black thriller, which, following the critically acclaimed Good Samaritans, confirms Will Carver as one of the most imaginative, innovative and exciting authors in crime fiction.

Nine people arrive one night on Chelsea Bridge. They’ve never met. But, at the same time, they leap to their deaths. Each of them received a letter in the post that morning, a pre-written suicide note, and a page containing only four words: Nothing important happened today.

That is how they knew they had been chosen to become a part of The People of Choice: a mysterious suicide cult whose members have no knowledge of one another.

Thirty-two people on a train witness the event. Two of them will be next. By the morning, People of Choice are appearing around the globe. It becomes a movement. A social-media page that has lain dormant for four years suddenly has thousands of followers.

The police are under pressure to find a link between the cult members, to locate a leader who does not seem to exist …

MY REVIEW

I usually write my reviews immediately after finishing a book, but for this ? Nope, I had to leave it while my brain could catch up. I’ve never read anything that’s had such a visceral reaction……

It is the story of suicide, that starts with 9, very different people, jumping off Chelsea bridge, with nooses round their necks…..each given a number, not a name…..what would make them do this? Who are The People of Choice?

Is this a cult?

Told from several perspectives, in a way that gives you an insight into the thoughts of, at times, depressive people, struggling in the day to day. Their inner thoughts and feelings of the world in general. The all too real comments about social media and the ‘fakery’ of it all is thought provoking to say the least.

There’s an anger to the narration and a despair at the world we have created for ourselves. Will Carver’s writing here is so disturbing and dark but oh so utterly compelling, I felt like one of the 32 people on the train, watching events but just couldn’t turn away…..

I can’t say anymore for fear of spoiling any part of this incredible story, but if you like your stories dark and gripping then this is a must, must read. In fact, I know I’m going to have to read this several times, it’s that good and I can’t get it out of my head.

Thank you to Anne Cater and Random Things Tours for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour,  for the promotional materials and a free copy of the book. This is my honest, unbiased review.
