PUBLISHERS BLURB

In March 1920 Icelandic days are short and cold, but the nights are long. For most, on those nights, funny, sad, and dramatic stories are told around the fire. But there is nothing dramatic about Gunnar, a hermit blacksmith who barely manages to make ends meet. He knows nobody will remember him – they already don’t. All he wants is peace, the company of his animals, and a steady supply of his medication. Sometimes he wonders what it would feel like to have a story of his own. He’s about to find out.

Sigurd – a man with a plan, a broken ankle, and shocking amounts of money – won’t talk about himself, but is happy to tell a story that just might get Gunnar killed. The blacksmith’s other “friends” are just as eager to write him into stories of their own – from Brynhildur who wants to fix Gunnar, then marry him, his doctor who is on the precipice of calling for an intervention, The Conservative Women of Iceland who want to rehabilitate Gunnar’s “heathen ways” – even the wretched elf has plans for the blacksmith.

As his defenses begin to crumble, Gunnar decides that perhaps his life is due for a change – on his own terms. But can he avoid the endings others have in mind for him, and forge his own?

MY REVIEW

Gunnar is a blacksmith, he lives on his own and that’s how he likes it….

Then, he rescues an injured climber, Sigurd, and takes him into his home to recover….to keep them entertained, Sigurd tells a story of a remote town, it’s residents and their lives…Gunner is a little enthralled by it……but just wait for the twists !!

This is not a book to rush through, it’s a story to enjoy, a little hygge…with some shocking twists..

Grave Intent by A.M. Peacock – Book Review

PUBLISHERS BLURB

Robert Norris. An eighteen-year old petty criminal is brutally tortured and left in a farmer’s field to die.

DCI Jack Lambert, and his team, think they have it all figured out. It’s a robbery gone wrong. Suspicion immediately falls on the man who called it in.

What Jack doesn’t realise is that this is just the beginning.

An escaped prisoner, an attempted hit, and a seemingly unending trail of violence and retribution follows.

As the mystery unfolds, Jack begins to suspect the existence of a secret, but powerful, syndicate operating on the very edges of the North East’s criminal underworld.

With the situation spiralling out of control, Jack finds himself at a crossroads—one which could lead him back into the kind of life he has spent a career running away from.

Time is running out and this case might not only cost Lambert his job, but also his life…

“From its very first gut-wrenching chapter I was completely hooked on ‘Open Grave’. This book signals the emergence of a brand new, north-east, crime-writing talent to watch out for. A.M Peacock is absolutely the real deal and Jack Lambert is a fascinating creation, destined for a big following. I can’t wait for the next one!”  Howard Linskey

MY REVIEW

#2 in the DCI Jack Lambert series, but can quite easily be read as a stand-alone.

From the tension filled first chapter this grabs your attention and does not let go…

Robert Norris was trying to break in to a farmers home, expecting it to be empty, but it wasn’t, Gus was home with a shot gun…..so Robert runs, is then bitten by a dog, stabbed with a pitchfork and has his head smashed with a rock….was it Gus or someone else?

With more murders, DCI Jack Lambert has his work cut out…..his new relationship with Ryan suffers and he’s back drinking and his old boss Dorian, the gangster is blighting his life again…..he’s a mess….but work always comes first! Just who is behind these deaths and is Jack next on the list?

This is a police procedural thriller with a breakneck pace, full of twists to keep you on your toes….with great characters to keep you entertained along the way….another stunning read by A.M Peacock….and I’m already looking forward to the next in this addictive series….
