MY REVIEW

DEADLY SECRETS is the Gavin Shawlens Thriller #1 by Gordon Bickerstaff.

This stunningly crafted thriller has an intricate plot, with plenty of twisty surprises.

Gavin Shawlens is an enzymologist, He is also part of a top secret British organization, The Lambeth Group that monitors various research scientists and their discoveries.

Gavin has been asked by SeaPro to test a new food additive derived from the black fiddle fish, that could revolutionize the entire food industry. He’s  not sure it will work, but when he finds the wife of the company owner is an ex-girlfriend…..he takes the job.

There’s also an anti-aging cream that’s quite miraculous but at what cost…..and as for the  Rehab AVC programme….horrific.

Then all hell breaks out……there is the shady Gyge’s ring…a group capable of murder to get and keep secrets…..Russian’s trying to steal the details of the food additive…
Just when you think everything one is safe and it’s all peaceful…no, there are more twists and heartbreak…is the additive safe, what is the link to poor Boggin…?

I really enjoyed this fast, ingenious and twisty thriller, yes there’s a lot of science, but it’s not overwhelming and really adds to the atmosphere of the tale. Brilliant, engaging and exciting writing by Gordon Bickerstaff….

MY REVIEW

The Feud starts with a fire many years ago, that resulted in the death of a young boy…..Kenver believes he knows who’s responsible…..

Then we are taken to the present day and Matt Trevelyar has left London to move to Cornwall and a new job as a teacher. A new start, a new life….

He arrives at his rented home, Badgers Holt, only to find a badgers head on a pole and a written warning…to F*** off back to London. Unsettled he calls the local police, but feels a waste of time…

He then meets the beautiful Lavender and is smitten….but is she interested ? Or is there something odd in the way she looks at him….her Grandmother, Morvoren believes he is an evil Trevelyar…..and plots to make him leave the village….anyway she can…

This is an easy read, with some nice twists and a clever plot…I enjoyed the relationship between Matt and Lavender, the doubts and secrets. It shows how perceived hurts can fester over years, all that emotional baggage and hate bring nothing but sadness, loneliness and pain…a very engrossing read….

Amanda has written since she was a child, but never imagined that her words would be published, given that she left school with no real qualifications of note apart from an A* in how to be a nuisance in class. Nevertheless, she returned to education when her daughter was five and eventually became a history teacher. Then in 2010, after many twists and turns, the dream of becoming a writer came true when her first short story was published. Amanda has written many short stories and has six novels currently published.

Amanda grew up in Sheffield but now has realised her lifelong dream of living in Cornwall and her writing is inspired every day by the dramatic coastline near her home. She has sketched out many stories in her head while walking the cliff paths. Three of her mystery/suspense novels are set there, Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Summer in Tintagel and the Behind the Lie. Rip Current is also set in Cornwall and will be published by Bloodhound Books in April 2018.
Amanda, known to many as Mandy, spends far more time than is good for her on social media and has turned procrastination to a fine art. She can also usually be found playing on the beach with her family, or walking the cliff paths planning her next book.

Catch Your Death by Kierney Scott – Book Review

0541AA86-4116-4BDA-8744-D364C8F230C0

PUBLISHERS BLURB

The scene played over and over in his mind. He only had one choice left. He had to die.

Behind the high and imposing gates of a prestigious college, five students have taken their lives. All of them friends, all of them good kids, all of them dead within months of each other. When FBI Agent Jess Bishop is called in to investigate, what she discovers will make her just as vulnerable as the students she’s trying to protect.

As Jess begins to unravel the secrets behind the deaths, she uncovers something much more sinister at the school and she is determined to find out who is at the centre of it.

Though her team think they’re closing in on the ringleader, Jess becomes convinced they’re going after the wrong person, forcing her to investigate on her own. Desperate to stop any more deaths, she risks everything by putting herself in the firing line. But just how far would she go to save the lives of those around her?

An absolutely gripping thriller that will have your pulse racing. Catch Your Death is perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner.

MY REVIEW

This is the 3rd in the series featuring the FBI’s Special Agent Jess Bishop, but can easily be read as a Stand-alone.

Jess is heading home, late one night, when she receives a call from her supervisor, Jeanie…..she’s worried about her nephew, Levi, as she’s been unable to get hold of him by phone and feels something is wrong.

Jess heads straight way to Levi’s rather exclusive school, the Gracemount Academy, but tragically she is too late and finds his body hanging in a bathroom….apparently suicide and she learns this is not the first boy this year….

So Jess starts investigating and finds a darker conspiracy than she expected, leading her and her team into danger, just who can she trust?

Jess Bishop is a bit of a troubled woman (understandable for someone whose dad is a serial killer (albeit in jail))..and looks for peace with some dubious ‘encounters’…but she’s dedicated to her job and her team….to a fault at times…I really felt for Jamison…he tries so hard and he loves her.

I really enjoyed Catch Your Death, it’s an easy read, but has so much going on to keep you hooked, with some great, likeable characters and the impulsive and sometimes reckless Jess, real escapism and a great read. I can thoroughly recommend it.
